1) Whoa! Tell me about that picture on Bridget's homepage. Why did she use it for her website?

That’s really Bridget leaping across a stream in North Carolina!

Photographer-poet Karen Chamberlain took that shot during Bridget’s first semester in the Master's writing program at Warren Wilson College. Bridget was two months pregnant with her daughter at the time.

Bridget says, "I was already thirty-five when that photograph was taken, but I never knew how strong or alive I was until I saw that picture. That photo always helps me see how much untapped energy and beauty can rest in the body, just waiting for release.

I want to share that potential with others."

2) What IS a Life Coach?

First, let’s discuss what a Life Coach is NOT. A life coach is not your mother, your best friend, or your therapist.

A Life Coach is a non-judgmental listener who asks thoughtful, open-ended questions to help a client identify areas in life that require focus or change. A Life Coach challenges clients to summon energy for important new directions. A Life Coach can be an empathetic cheerleader who celebrates with you as you grow, the butt-kicker who helps you achieve excellence, or a spiritual guru who helps you find balance in your life. A Life Coach helps people turn dreams into reality.

Life Coaches are action-oriented, but the client, not the coach, directs and chooses how to grow. Bridget Morton loves observing clients as they make strong decisions and take positive action!

3) How do I find the right coach for me?

The ideal coach specializes in the particular areas you want to work on, whether personal, work-related, or spiritual.

You may find the best coach on the Internet, or through asking friends and colleagues about their experiences with a Life Coach. Make sure that your Coach has expertise and interest in the areas you want to work on. Bridget, like any good Coach, will be happy to chat with you. You can gauge your rapport during that introductory phone call.

4) Is Bridget Balthrop Morton the right Life Coach for me?

Bridget Morton’s lifelong passions include the pursuit of excellence, a healthy spirituality in a capable body, and the need for all people to acknowledge and practice their special creativity to make the world a safer, more peaceful place.

Many of us emerge from childhood (or school) with no connection to our exuberant, creative selves. Bridget enjoys working with people seeking creative and spiritual balance in their lives. Often, such people feel blocked.

Sometimes the blockage comes from fear, as for a CEO who hates public speaking but must give frequent speeches.

Continual work can also lead to creative blockage, as many workaholics, who have no personal life, well know.

Life’s stress can even cause blockage, as when a new mother feels pulled between demands at work and ties at home. Bridget works to connect people with their genuine desires so they can establish a more centered and balanced life.

5) How will I meet with my Life Coach?

Bridget, like most coaches, meets clients by phone. This offers convenience, but it also allows you to choose the best possible Coach - the One who will serve your personal and professional goals without any concern about location.

6) How long will I need my Life Coach?

That’s up to you and the Coach. Most Coaches are action-oriented folks who encourage clients to take stock, take risks, and take off.

Bridget likes to help you set and meet goals quickly, but she does work with some clients on a long-term basis, either as a consultant or occasional sounding board. Bridget wants to watch you soar!

7) What kind of clients has Bridget worked with?

Bridget Balthrop Morton has a particular interest in helping people transition through times of change. She has helped professionals deciding whether to return for higher education, entrepreneurs engaging in new business, and groups trying to resolve conflict. Her clients have included Ph.D. candidates on two continents, youth (and families) at risk, high achievers, and mid- and upper management.

8) Does Bridget have training as a Life Coach?
First, there is no standard training for Life Coaches. Bridget always grins when asked this question. "I'm the oldest daughter of nine children," she says. "What kind of training did you have in mind?"

Bridget has led personal development workshops for Outward Bound and taught youth-at-risk in schools, parks, and the wilderness. She has educated families and adults about transition planning, and she has taught creative writing to people of all ages, from pre-school through retirement.

"Life Coaches need a few particular skills," Bridget points out. "We have to believe, without question, in our clients' potential. We need to listen between the lines, for the message even the client is afraid of. We must speak the truth as we see it, whether hard or gentle, that will help our clients grow. And we have to be willing to let the clients do the work."

Bridget always laughs at this point. "Isn't it funny?" she says. "I learned all this helping my brothers and sisters bake Christmas cookies. I owe them great thanks for my wonderful career!"
